Biosphere committed
We are Biosphere committed. The Biosphere sustainability system was established in 1997 by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), together with a network of sustainability experts, academics and industry professionals. Developed under an official Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO, Biosphere translates the United Nations’ sustainable development guidelines into practical actions.
Year-Round Operations for Sustainability
Year-round operations are sustainable. Developing year-round tourism and increasing visitor stays are our current goals, which also support sustainable tourism practices. By operating year-round, we ensure year-round, sustainable cooperation with our extensive local subcontractor network and provide year-round employment for our staff. This boosts the local economy and well-being, creates stable jobs, and reduces the challenges caused by seasonal employment. At the same time, we reduce the environmental impact of tourism by distributing the focus of tourism more evenly throughout the year.
Environmental Responsibility and Energy Solutions
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of tourism by investing in energy efficiency, recycling waste, and using as many local, organic raw materials and services as possible. Our goal is to offer our guests an authentic experience that respects nature and local culture. In cooperation with local actors, we also strive to promote awareness of sustainable tourism. We generate also our own electricity through extensive solar panels located on the roof of Taiga Resort’s Unelma building. We recycle glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, metal, mixed waste, and hazardous waste, and inform our guests about recycling. We do not provide housekeeping for our guests unless specifically requested, thus reducing the amount of laundry and cleaning agents. We use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

You are welcome just as you are. Come experience our adventures as your own self, regardless of age, sexual orientation, religion, culture, or special needs. Our facilities are mostly accessible, so holidays and celebrations work well even in a wheelchair.
Pets are also welcome to stay with us.

We are part of Visit Finland’s Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) program. Currently, we are Biosphere committed by BIOSPHERE SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATION, and once certified, we will complete the STF program.
